Working closely with public health authorites and adhering to their protocols, we are safely hosting school programs and outdoor experiences and offering facilty rental. For added safety for our community and staff our administative buildings remain closed to the public. Our trails and Nature Playscape remain open from sunrise to sundown. 6/16 - Tree Identification
Learn how to identify the trees around you! We'll go over defining characteristics of some of the most common trees in the northwoods, and practice how to identify them using a dichotomous key!
6/23 - Neighboring Birds of Prey
Hawks, falcons, and owls: Oh, my! Learn about northern Wisconsin's birds of prey, and their adaptations. There will also be an opportunity to meet TFT's education hawk, Apollo.
6/30 - Pollinators
Learn about the important work of our local pollinators and what you can do to help them! There will also be an opportunity to make your own pollinator-themed craft to take home!
7/7 - Woodland Wander
Ever wonder about the hidden life of the forest? Wonder no more as you wander through TFT's forest with one of our educators as your guide! We'll point out tracks, interesting plants, trees, fungus, and much more as we explore on our nature hike!
7/14 - Food Webs
Oh what tangled webs we weave, especially when it comes to food! Activities and games will help us learn about the complex interactions among our plants and animals that help create an interconnected ecosystem.
7/21 - Animal homes
Nests, dens, lays, and lodges, Oh my! Join us as we explore the diversity of animal homes that you can find right here in the northwoods.
7/28 - Human Survival Skills
Would you know what to do if you were lost in the woods? In this program, we'll discuss the ins-and-outs of survival situations, discuss what to do, and practice a key outdoors skill: fire building.
8/4 - Night Hike* (*Starts at a special time: 7:30pm)
On a dusk hike, we'll discover how local wildlife adapts to nighttime, and compare our senses to those of nocturnal woodland animals!
Our Family Nature Program is designed for families with children or grand-children of all ages. Families will spend the morning exploring the Northwoods together through hands-on activities, fun games, nature-inspired art projects, and meeting live animals. Cost is $4/person or $10/group of 4. Minimum of one adult for every three child participants. Pre-registration is not required.
